Paul Tillman Smith - Fonky Times
Over the years Paul has been the leader of several bands including 70’s Buddha Records recording group “Vitamin E” which featured vocalist’s Lady Bianca, David Gardener and Freddie Hughes. 80’s CBS recording group “Bridge”, which featured vocalist Derek Hughes and Debra Von Lewis and whose CD “Crying for Love”, was named the record of the year in Europe by Blues and Soul Magazines plus recently Park Place, which currently has Donnie Williams from the American Idol show as its lead vocalist.
Paul has had over a hundred songs published through his career and has written for Norman Connors, Phyliss Hyman, Jean Carne, Erma Thomas and D.J. Rogers to name a few. The “Fonky Times” CD represents my first solo effort Paul states, but there may be more to come because he has yet to record the main body of his work which consists of many unrecorded compositions written earlier in his career. Paul currently helps to manage the Berkeley Juneteenth Festival, the longest running African American music and arts festival in Northern California history overseeing the stage, sound and entertainment. He helped co-found the Festival in the late eighties and has helped other surrounding cities with their musical celebrations.
